June 2010 Newsletter
The committee thought that it was about time that we delivered a newsletter out to all our members and they have asked me to do it after I foolishly said that I could put something on paper (or the computer more like), so here goes. I will try and do something after each committee meeting.
Committee
Just so that people know who the committee is here, is a list:-
President: Bruce Burdekin
Secretary/Treasurer: James Sleeman
Safety Officer: Paul Woodley
CFI: Dave Mitchell
Club Captain: Grant Porter
Committee members: Jerry Savage, Caroline Trevella, Roy Waddington, Stu Bufton, Doug Anderson, Buzz Harvey
MBZ
It sounds like the MBZ is coming to Rangiora. Unofficially, it will come in, in November. Hopefully it won’t stop everyone looking out the window and just relying on the radio to get a handle on where everyone is in the sky.
SAA
The committee has done a deal with the SAA (Sport Aviation Association), which means the SAA members are able to use our clubrooms. We look forward to seeing more of them and sharing our aviation passion.
Hangar #3 Doors
You may have noticed that the doors are now on Number 3 hanger. A very big thanks to Phil Richards for all the hard work that he and his helpers have done. This is a big asset to the club. Keep July 4th free. We intend to have a hanger-opening day on July 4th. We hope to have some flying competitions that day as well. Our intrepid club captain, Grant Porter, is on the case.
Hanger rents are under review. There will be no change until the new GST comes in but hanger charges and flying charges MAY change at that time. Be prepared.
Membership Cards
The committee, at it’s meeting looked at issuing membership cards. It was decided that it was way too much hassle for the secretary for no real benefit so it won’t be happening.
Club Visits
On the 13th of June a motorcycle club will be visiting our club for a look around and maybe some trial flights. Please make them feel welcome and help out with information if needed.
Queens Birthday Weekend
Queens Birthday weekend. It was decided, in light of the weather and the fact that the Oxford strip has had 11 inches of rain in the last fortnight, it was decided to put off the Queens birthday flyin. However the strip will be open and the BBQ is available, if anyone wants to come for the day, any day. Just be aware that although there are no puddles on the strip it is wet under foot and caution needs to be taken when braking.
Well this is just a brief letter to keep everyone in the loop. Next time I hope to have some news of what’s been going on, on the field.
Cheers, Dave McPherson
