June 2006
Just a short news letter this month as we need to put the club in the picture about the new hangar complex.
As you know the Council has allocated us some ground at the West end of the airfield for our future development. The committee as well as some co-opted members have been coming up with some options for site development . We have enough room for a set of 8 10x15m hangars in one block for members to develop as a block project , a 20x20m hangar that Doug Anderson wishes to develop and a plot around 50x20m that the club wishes to develop.
The 50 x 20m site will be developed by the club first and Doug will start his as soon as consents are approved and the site is developed.
The committee is at a stage where we need to think about finance for the development of the large hangar and to this end we wish to gauge the club members interest in becoming involved with the development of the site financially.
We are looking for investors in the hangar for initially 3 avenues;
1. Direct donation to the club
2. Debenture payment to the club to be paid back at a defined date
3. Pre payment of hangar space
We plan to have 15 to 20 hangar spaces available in the new hangar and rental will be around $22 /per week. We are looking to members to purchase hangar space for a minimum of year at a cost of
1 year at $1100
2 years at $2150
3 years at $3200
4 years at $4200
5 Years at $5300
Other durations by negotiation.
Further finance will be sourced via Banks and Grants. We wish to keep our requirement for bank loans to a minimum and over as short a term as practicable.
Debenture holders would be acknowledged by the club by free membership for the duration of the loan.
Donations to the club would be acknowledged by the club by a negotiable membership fee.
Hangar Type
We plan to build a double sided hangar with provision to extend it and attach a clubhouse ,training facility and workshop area.
We will have parking ,a toilet block and room for camping and outside BBQ facilities.
We are looking at a number of different hangar type and want to build as big a hangar as possible for around $150,000. We may not be able to build one the size want now but will make it extendable.
Once we have we have a plan put together we will have a special culb meeting to ratify the club’s direction and make any changes the club members decide. Our time frame is still uncertain as we need to decide on the finance method . A staged project is possible with the site clearing first followed by the foundation then the building of the hangar. The clubhouse and other facilities will follow as funds allow.
There will be a meeting of interested parties at the clubhouse on Wednesday 21st June at 7.30pm.
On the 24th June at 10am we are going to stake out the position of the clubhouse and other proposed buildings.

Don’t forget the Club Diner on the 24th at the Kaiapoi Working Men’s Club Riverview Restrauant .
